Own the Night Teen Summer Reading

This year’s teen summer reading program has kicked off to a good start. The program runs from June 4 through August 5, and teens in grades 6-12 can sign up at the reference desk (there’s also an adult summer reading program this year — tell  your parents!). Click here to see our upcoming programs, including a great new way to find new summer reads at our Date or Hate book speeding dating event, an educational and terrifying journey into local Colorado hauntings at our Things That Go Bump in the Night evening, a visit from paranormal YA novelist Brenna Yovanoff, and a mother-daughter spa day.

After you read 12 hours, you’re eligible for a free book AND an entry into our big giveaway — a Kindle Fire! Don’t miss out!

You Are Here Summer Reading Raffle

The teen summer reading program is officially over, and the names were drawn for the raffle prizes yesterday. This year, we awarded Pirate’s Cove passes, Chipotle “free burritos for four” meals, Elitch Gardens tickets, and gift cards for GameStop, ITunes, and Wal-Mart to 19 lucky winners. All winners have been called. The winner of the Tattered Cover gift card for most reviews written will be determined this week, as well (as soon as I count the zillions of reviews you guys wrote!).

Even if you didn’t complete the program in time for the raffle, you can still pick up the 6-hour reading prizes and get a free book for completing the program through August 15.

On this blog, be on the lookout for the awesome photos for two of our summer reading events: the glitter henna tattoo program and the air-brushed T-shirt workshop. I apologize for not posting them sooner — time goes quickly during summer reading and it got away from me.

Thanks to all of you for participating and making summer reading a success this year! Thanks also to our sponsors who generously donated prizes: Chipotle, Tokyo Joe’s, Izze soda, Chick-fil-A, Elitch Gardens, Pirate’s Cove, and Tattered Cover.

Make Waves Summer Reading Comes to a Close

The teen summer reading program, Make Waves, came to a close Monday, August 2. I will be doing the raffle prize drawings tomorrow, Thursday, and will notify the winners next week by phone or e-mail. Raffle prizes this year include gift cards from Wal-Mart and Tattered Cover; free meals from Chipotle; Twilight series merchandise; movie tickets; Elitch Gardens tickets; and a surprise drawing for Pirate’s Cove passes (everyone who completed summer reading is eligible to win one of those).

If you signed up for summer reading but missed the deadline, it’s not too late to get your 6-hour reading prizes. Though you’re no longer eligible for the end-of-summer raffle, you can still bring in your Make Waves bookmark and receive your prizes for reading, including the free book for completing 24 hours! This extension will go through the week, so please bring in your bookmarks by Sunday, August 8. After this, no prizes will be given out.

Thanks to those who participated in summer reading this year! Stay tuned for next summer’s program!

Final Summer Reading Raffle Winners!

The winners for the final group of summer reading raffles have been chosen and contacted. We awarded teens with gift cards to Acoustic Music Revival and Wal-Mart, passes to Elitch Gardens, free pizzas from Domino’s,  and an Artemis Fowl Playaway audio book.

The Tattered Cover gift card, awarded to the person who wrote the most book reviews during the summer, went to Joni M. with 29 reviews! Congrats Joni!

Raffle Winners for first Gear Up and Read drawing

On July 10, we drew names for the first group of raffle prizes: ten lucky summer readers won Pirate’s Cove passes and two won Regal Entertainment Group movie passes. All the winners were contacted by phone.

Our next, and final, raffle will be held August 10. Remember, to be eligible for the final prizes you must finish the program and have everything turned in by August 2! That means your reading log and all four book review sheets must be in before we close for weeding week. When we reopen on August 10, we’ll hold the final raffle for the Wal-Mart gift card, the Acoustic Music Revival gift cards, the Elitch Garden passes, and the Playaway audiobook, and we’ll award the Tattered Cover gift card to the teen who writes the most book reviews.

It’s still not too late to sign-up for summer reading and complete the program by August 2, so if you haven’t already, now’s when you should go for it.
